50 first dates

Has anybody watched that film, 50 first dates? With Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore. It's not a new film or anything, it came out in 2003. I love it! I've watched it many times, and the ending still makes me cry. It's the perfect chick-flick; it's funny, romantic and a little sad. If you haven't watched it you should.
This film really makes me want to go to Hawaii, although I guess that's a place most people want to go to.

It's about a girl that has amnesia, she can't remember anything that happened the day before. This guy meets her and falls in love, but since she can't remember him from day to day, he has to try and win her over again every single day, hence the title.

I have no willpower

At the moment my sister is selling boxes of cookies and sweets to finance her class-trip to Poland, and I think it's really nice that the students actually have to try and earn the money for the trip themselves instead of just getting the money from their parents.

The downside of this is that all the boxes of cookies and sweets is standing in the dining room, which is also where I keep my laptop. So every time I sit at my laptop (which is more often than I should) I can see those boxes. Like the title of this post says: I have no willpower. I have already spent 200NOK on cookies! They're really nice. And as I'm sitting here I'm arguing with myself on whether or not I should buy another box... Probably shouldn't... probably will... I think I will have to cover them with a blanket or something so I won't see them all the time.

London baby!

Buckingham Palace
My ticket to London is booked for November! I'm really looking forward to do some Christmas shopping, I've been there a couple of times before and they've got so many cool shops.

I'm also looking forward to Primark, which has got to be one of the best shops ever!

I'm hoping to do some sightseeing as well, I saw a few things last time I went with my mum, but there are so many things to see in London I'm not sure anyone will be able to see all of it in one short visit.
Big Ben and London Eye

I'm going with my mum this time as well, seeing as she wanted to go again and it would just be selfish to go all on my own then. But I would have gone on my own if she didn't want to go, I made my mind up a few weeks ago that I was going to go before Christmas no matter what.

We'll be staying at a nice hotel (at least I hope it turns out to be nice) near Hyde park, so it's a fairly short walk to the shops. Last time we stayed outside London, so we had to catch the train every morning and night, it'll be nice not to have to do that again. It means we can stay out longer as well.

Does anyone know of anything we should see while we're there? Places to shop or eat? Anything?

The Crooked Spire, Chesterfield

I'm also going to England at the end of January, back to Chesterfield where I lived for over 3 years. I've not booked the ticket yet, but I will right after pay day. I'm looking forward to seeing my friends there.

Hopefully I will get my reply from Griffith University before I go to England in January, so if I get accepted I can get some shopping done for Australia in Meadowhall, Sheffield and wherever else we go.

Travelling

My mum and I are looking at flights and hotels to London at the moment. I just suddenly wanted to go, and I want to go before Christmas so that I can get some presents, so we're looking at November. We've found some fairly cheap plane tickets and also a cheap (ish) hotel right next to Hyde Park! The hotel's even got good reviews!

I'm also hopefully going to England in January, to Chesterfield, which is where I lived for over 3 years before I moved back to Norway in May this year. It would be really nice to see all my friends up there again. I miss Chesterfield.

I was thinking about Australia earlier today, as I do most days, and I started looking at plane tickets. And then I noticed the flight time: 30 hours!! 30 hours! That's stopping in Heathrow and Dubai as well. But that's when I depart from Oslo, so I also have to get a plane down to Oslo, so that would make it more than 30 hours. But it doesn't matter, I don't mind how long I have to sit on a plane, I'm going to Australia.
As I was looking at the flight itineraries I also started getting tears in my eyes... Why? I'm not sure, I had to ask myself that question. I think it's because I will miss my family and friends a lot, especially since I'm going so far away. I think I also got tears in my eyes because I was getting so excited... Australia! It's hopefully less than a year until I go!

I just got an e-mail from KILROY education about half an hour ago, they've sent my application to Griffith today!!! I'm so excited! My heart fluttered as I was reading the e-mail. I just hope they reply quickly and that it's a positive response.

If you could see me now

Another great book by Cecelia Ahern, If you could see me now. It's a book for the child in all of us, a book for those that has forgotten the child within. It's just a really beautiful book!
It's kind of girlie, but I think everyone could benefit from reading it. And yes, I do mean benefit.
It made me laugh a lot, and think a lot, it was also a little bit sad, but most of it was just really funny.

Signed, Sealed, Delivered

I've sent in my application for Griffith university! I'll be running down to to mailbox to see if I've got a reply as soon as I see the postman every single day now. Although KILROY education has to process it before they send it to Griffith and even after that I need to wait 4-6 weeks before I get a reply, but who cares?! I'm so excited that I've actually sent it in!

Now I just need to cross my fingers that they'll accept me.

I Heart Paris

I just finished reading "I Heart Paris" by Lindsey Kelk, I absolutely loved it! Just like the other two I heart books. It mad me want to reread the other two again.
"I Heart Paris" was full of surprises all the way through and made my heart flutter many times. It's another girlie must-read, just remember to read "I Heart New York" and "I Heart Hollywood" first.

I wonder if she'll write more books in this series? It's such a shame for it to end.

PS, I love you

I just finished reading Cecilia Aherns "PS, I love you", and I absolutely loved it! It's quite different from the film, in a good way, as it usually is with these things. The ending really surprised me, I was kind of disappointed at first, but it was a good ending really.
I would recommend this book to any girl/woman, just be prepared to cry quite a few times when you read it, both because it's sad and also of laughter.

I have to say thought; it annoys me that the film is set in America when it's not supposed to, just like "Confessions of a Shopaholic". Can't American film-makers understand that things does actually happen in other countries as well?

One step closer

I have now gotten an application form for Griffith University. It's 4 pages long! I've got about 50 questions for KILROY on how to fill it out, but at least I've got an application form. I'm already looking forward to having sent it in, after that I should get a reply in 4-6 weeks. Seeing as I don't want to start until July, if I don't get into Griffith I should have time to apply for another university. But I'm crossing my fingers for Griffith.

I was watching this new program on telly last night, where 3 families get sent to 3 different parts of the word, not knowing before they go where they would end up. One family was sent to the Hamer People in Ethiopia, one to the Gobi Desert of Mongolia and the last to the island group of Vanuatu. As it was the first episode last night we didn't really see much of what happened when they arrived except for the greeting of the locals.

Just imagine! How cool would it be, to just get sent somewhere you've never been, not knowing where you're going. To meet a completely new culture. It would be hard to understand each other, but what a great experience it would be! I'd love to do something like that!

Cake!

I've been craving cake all day. I love cake, especially chocolate cake. I spent most of the afternoon looking at cake recipes, which obviously just made me want cake even more. So after tea I gave in and went down to the shop to get some ingredients.
I could just eat it like this, nearly did as well, but as my sister was watching and also wanted some brownies I had to cook it.
I hate the wait while it's cooking...
Finished! And if I may say so myself; it tasted delicious! And it helped with my cake craving.

I'm cold

It's autumn. How do I know? I've already started wearing socks in bed! You'd think I was like 80 or something. I mean, it's only September, I shouldn't need to wear socks in bed until at least November. I don't even live that far up north in Norway.
At least they're warm

Just imagine, in Australia it's spring. I really hope I get in to a university in Australia next year. I'm going to start applying soon. Maybe I'll have a bigger chance getting in since I'm applying this early?

I am nervous. What if I get in to a university but I can't get a loan? or what if I don't get in at all? What should I do then?

Day off

I've had a day off today, which is nice, but I wouldn't mind working more so that I could save up for Australia quicker. I have applied for another job, so I'm just hoping I get it, even though it would mean I won't have any spare time. ...I'll have enough spare time when I'm retired.

Since I had a day off I figured that I should be ever more lazy than usual, so I watched a couple of films.

One of the films I watched was The Reader, With Kate Winslet and Ralph Fiennes. It's a good film, although certain things annoyed me, but it's probably the way it was written in the book that it's based upon, and I'm not going to say exactly what it was because I don't want to ruin it for those of you that haven't seen it. But like I said: it's a god film.
The second film I watched today was Music and Lyrics with Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore, which I liked a lot more. It's a really sweet film, and one that I think I could probably just watch over and over again. Loved it.

Australia, looking a little better

Yay! I just heard back from KILROY Education and they're saying I might get in to a University in Australia with the papers I've got after all!

The universities do it on a case-by-case assessment, but at least I know I might actually get in! I'm  very happy right now, just in case you couldn't tell by my exclamation points.

The student service manager from KILROY is saying Griffith University is my best bet at the minute. They accept people with the papers I've got and also with the fairly mediocre grades I've got (I really should have tried harder in school...).
Griffith University has got campuses both in Brisbane and on the Gold Coast, which is kind of the area I was hoping to go!
There's still a lot I need to do, like apply, then I need to take an English test, since it's over 5 years since I had it in school and I need to apply for a loan, but at least I'm one step closer to my big dream!

Fingers crossed!

Australia+study=problem

My big dream at the moment is to go to Australia to study, which I would like to do next summer, so that it's winter in Australia and I won't die of heat stroke.

To get in to a university in Australia I need a diploma or a general admission. I studied music before, so I should have a general admission. Unfortunately I failed one of my exams so I've only got a competence certificate... Which will get me nowhere. So I went in to the school where I had my exams 5 years ago and asked to retake the exam. No can do. The subject which I failed does not exist any more!

However, the lady at the school told me, I should already have a general admission, because I am over 23 years old, and I've been working and/or studying for the last 5 years. So as I'm writing here, I'm waiting for a reply from KILROY Education on whether or not they'll accept that in Australia and also if I can still get a grant and loan with that.

Student loans is the "best" type of loans
If they won't accept it I will have to take quite a few exams to get my general admission because some of the other subjects has changed as well. Which is fine, I'm prepared to take a few exams, the question is if I can take them all and get the results in time for me to go to Australia and study next summer.

What am I going to do if I can't? I am considering going as an au pair, as I have worked as that before, but the problem is I REALLY want to study!! So at some point I will have to take some exams anyway... I don't really know what to do...

Remember kids: stay in school and pass your exams and everything, you never know when you might want to study again. I never thought I would want to when I finished school the first time around...

60 seconds

I try to be a positive person, it's hard sometimes but everything is. I've printed out the text below and hung it up on my bedroom wall next to my door, I don't always look at it, but the days I do I try extra hard to be positive.

As we grow up, we learn that even the one person that wasn't supposed to
ever let you down probably will.

You will have your heart broken probably more than once and it's harder every time.

You'll break hearts too, so remember how it felt when yours was broken

You'll fight with your best friend. You'll blame a new love for things an old one did.
You'll cry because time is passing too fast, and you'll eventually lose someone you love.

So take too many pictures, laugh too much, and love like you've never been hurt because every sixty seconds you spend upset is a minute of happiness you'll never get back.

Turkey

I've recently been to Turkey, to Alanya to be more precise. It was really nice, although I would have preferred to go in the spring or autumn as it was too hot to actually do anything, we spent most of the time lying by the pool or indoors when that was too hot as well.

I had a Turkish bath on the second day there, it was lovely, most of the time anyway. They went a bit too far up my thighs for my liking, and the exfoliating wasn't exactly gentle, but other than that it was just heavenly, just lying there getting pampered, and I actually got a bit of a tan too, so I think it helped. I mean, I hardly ever get a tan, probably because I always remember to put on sun cream (I'd rather be pale than risk melanoma).

I tried some Turkish delight while I was in Turkey, and I just have to ask if anyone actually like it?! I'm sorry, but it's definitely not my cup of tea.

As usual in these places the people in the shops and in restaurants chase you down the streets trying to get you to buy something with them, I guess in a way they do actually work for their customers, but sometimes it can get too much.
I got some birthday and Christmas presents while I was down there, yeah, I know it's only September, but I like starting early, this time last year I was nearly finished.

We went to Alanya Castle and watched the sunset one day, it was absolutely lovely! If any of you ever go to Alanya you should really go up to the Castle and see the sunset, loads of picture opportunities.

Bye for now

Getting started

Right, I've joined the blogger community.

What made me do it? Well I've been thinking about it for a while, but I've always been nervous about not having anything to write about. My main reason to wanting to start one is because I like to write, and I want to get better at writing, because I know I'm not very good at it yet. I watched Julie & Julia earlier today and for some reason that film made up my mind that I wanted to write a blog.

Have you seen that film Julie & Julia by the way? I was afraid it would maybe be a bit boring, but I really liked it, it's a really nice film, and I would really recommend it. I really want to read the book now, I usually do after watching a film, the books are usually better.

So that's my first blog post. I'm thinking about the next one already, so the wait won't be long.
